The Art of Skin Event Takes Manhattan

Top dermatologists and industry members braved a balmy, rainy Thursday night in New York City to support the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) efforts to advance excellence in dermatologic care.

The 2025 Art of Skin event highlighted two AAD programs: the Clinical Image Collection and Good Skin Knowledge.

Launched in 2025, the Clinical Image Collection is an expert-reviewed library that now includes 800+ images of the top 20 dermatologic conditions across many different skin tones. Good Skin Knowledge provides free lesson plans and grants to schools and nonprofit organizations, expanding access to skin health education for kids across the country.

Recognizing Progress and Building a Future

“Tonight is about recognizing the progress we have made…the lives we have touched, and the future we are building together,” said Kevin Cooper, MD, FAAD, AAD Vice President, during the event. Dr. Cooper is Professor and the Henri Pell Junod, Jr., Chair of Dermatology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, University Hospital Seidman Cancer Center, and Case Western Reserve University, all in Cleveland, OH.

“As the President of the Skin of Color Society and an AAD member, it was an honor to co-host this year’s Art of Skin event,” Nada Elbuluk, MD, MSc, Director of the University of South California (USC) Skin of Color and Pigmentary Disorders Program, part of Keck Medicine of USC, in Los Angeles, CA, tells TDD. “This important event raises critical support for two high-impact programs: the Clinical Image Collection, which is a collaboration between the AAD and SOCS, as well as Good Skin Knowledge. Both of these wonderful programs improve health equity through expanding inclusive dermatologic education for dermatologists, trainees, and the public.”

To support the AAD’s mission through Art of Skin, donations can be made at www.aad.org/ArtofSkin. Proceeds will directly benefit programs like the Clinical Image Collection and Good Skin Knowledge. Every gift helps the AAD reach more patients, more learners, and more communities.
