“The question that George had asked me is, will regeneration replace rejuvenation? I’m not sure the two are mutually exclusive, but we’ll try to answer that,” says Wm. Philip Werschler, MD, FAAD, FAACS.
In his presentation, “Regeneration Will Replace Rejuvenation 2021 – The Science Behind Regeneration,” at this year’s Maui Derm, Dr. Werschler examines the holy trinity of regeneration: cell types, growth factors and the matrix in which it is all sustained.
While opportunities for regeneration in dermatology abound, he points out, there are also challenges, namely patient selection and cell harvesting and delivery.
“Will regeneration replace rejuvenation? Probably not completely in our practice lifetimes, but it can make a huge contribution,” he says.
