Ped Derms in the News: NIAMS Selects Dr. Leslie Castelo-Soccio as New Associate Director of Clinical Research

Pediatric dermatologist Leslie Castelo-Soccio, MD, PhD, is the new National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) Associate Director of Clinical Research.

In this brand-new role for the Institute, Dr. Castelo-Soccio will serve as clinical science advisor, working closely with other NIAMS senior leadership to support NIAMS research programs, operations, and strategies. She will also act as a liaison to other National Institutes of Health (NIH) centers and will oversee NIAMS’ participation in existing and emerging NIH-wide initiatives. She will also serve as the institute’s Deputy Ethics Counselor.

Dr. Castelo-Soccio came to NIAMS in 2021 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA, where she was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Dermatology. Most recently, she served as Associate Research Physician and Staff Clinician on the Dermatology Consult Service in the NIAMS intramural program. She also co-directed the Translational Dermatology Unit within the Cutaneous Microbiome and Inflammation Group.

Dr. Castelo-Soccio earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and her doctoral degrees from Cornell University through the Tri-Institutional M.D.-Ph.D. program.
