Exploring Pterostilbene’s Potential Role in Skincare

A 0.1% pterostilbene-containing skincare emulsion may improve skin elasticity, firmness, and reduce wrinkles, a new study suggests.

Pterostilbene, a naturally occurring stilbenoid, is structurally similar to resveratrol found in blueberries and other plants.

The double-blind, split-face design study included 31 participants. Compared to a control emulsion, the pterostilbene emulsion brought about statistically significant improvements in skin elasticity, and firmness. It also reduced wrinkles, such as forehead, undereye, and Crow’s feet and increased the thickness of the epidermis layer, enhanced collagen, and elastic fibers, and minimized skin pores.

All subjects expressed higher satisfaction with the pterostilbene emulsion, according to the research which appears in the Journal of Dermatologic Science and Cosmetic Technology.

Now, the authors propose a longer study period to fully understand the impact of pterostilbene.
