Is Enzymatically Modified Isoquercitrin the New “It” Ingredient for Slowing Photoaging?  

A flavonoid derivative of  isoquercitrin may help put the brakes on the signs of photoaging in skin, according to a study in Photochemistry and Photobiology.

In the 28-day clinical trial, volunteers aged 31–55 years who used enzymatically modified isoquercitrin (EMIQ) showed reduced facial trans-epidermal water loss and skin roughness, alongside improved skin elasticity. In vitro studies also supported these effects.

“This study emphasizes EMIQ’s potential as an anti-photoaging ingredient in cosmetics, warranting further research,” conclude researchers who were led by Xue-dong Bai of the R&D Center of Shanghai Huiwen Biotech in Shanghai, China. “The findings pave the way for developing innovative skincare products addressing photoaging effects.”
