Delivered through its new ILDS ‘DermImpact’ Grants Programme with recipients selected by the ILDS’ Foundation, the International Foundation for Dermatology (IFD), the grants will provide two-years’ support for each project.  Grant applicants are expected to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to build capacity in underserved communities to improve care, services and support for patients living with skin diseases. Ideally, selected projects will also be delivered sustainably.

The new ILDS DermImpact Grants Programme complements the association’s existing DermLink Grants Programme under which funding of $3,000-5,000 is offered for one-year projects to support patients living with skin diseases in underserved communities. DermLink grants are awarded to around 15 projects each year. Examples include supporting people with albinism (PWA) in rural areas of Africa; addressing Skin-Related Neglected Tropical Diseases (Skin-NTDs) in marginalised communities and advocating for people living with skin conditions to combat the stigma they can face.

“The ILDS is driving improvements in access to skin care as we work towards our goal to deliver ‘skin health for the world’,” says ILDS President Henry W. Lim, MD, former Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Henry Ford Health in Detroit, MI,in a news release. “Following the success of our DermLink Grants in delivering benefits through relatively small-scale, localised projects, we felt that introducing an additional programme, based on collaboration between applicants and other stakeholders working in the field, would give greater reach and ensure a long-lasting and sustainable impact in the underserved communities selected.

“We’re looking forward to supporting the successful DermImpact applicants in promoting long-lasting improvements in the standard of care for those affected by skin diseases in the communities targeted by their projects.”
