New research adds to a growing body of evidence showing that DefenAge’s 8-in-1 BioSerum improves periocular skin quality.
In the multicenter, prospective, open-label clinical trial, 20 people aged 45-80 with Fitzpatrick skin types II-IV applied a skin care regimen containing alpha-defensin 5 and beta-defensin 3 to the face twice daily for 12 weeks. (The 8-in-1 BioSerum contains a greater percentage of defensins than that already studied.)
In the epidermis and basal layer, defensin molecules reactivate latent LGR6 skin master cells to regenerate new basal stem cells and healthy keratinocytes in the skin, contributing to a refreshed, vibrant complexion. At the dermis layer, defensin-molecules promote the activation of fibroblasts, stimulation of collagen and elastin, and boosting of the natural secretion of the body’s natural growth factors.
Improvements were seen in all aspects of skin quality including wrinkles, laxity, dyschromia, erythema, texture, and radiance. Based on the Fitzpatrick-Goldman wrinkle scale, a statistically significant improvement was noted in both wrinkling and elastosis from baseline to day ninety in study participants. Eighty percent of subjects were rated by physicians as improved or much improved in a Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS).
“The use of DefenAge 8-in-1 BioSerum around the eye area resulted in statistically significant improvements in the appearance of the skin’s roughness, wrinkling, redness, age spots, and pigmentation,” says study author Amy Forman Taub, MD, a dermatologist and Founder of Advanced Dermatology and skinfo Specialty Skincare Boutique in Lincolnshire, Ill. “DefenAge results in profound improvements in the visible health and beauty of the skin that are readily apparent to even the untrained eye.”
